One of the best things about Mikasa Floors is our revolutionary PlankLoc technology, which makes wood floor installation and repair easy, as it does not require the use of nails or glue. This is also helpful in reducing the wood flooring installation cost. No wonder our engineered wooden floors are one of the favorites for residential and commercial spaces. Here’s a list of some important rules that you must observe when installing engineered wood flooring.
1. The relative humidity level should be less than 60%.
Wood is hygroscopic in nature. It absorbs moisture from the surroundings, depending on the relative humidity and ambient temperature. Make sure the relative humidity level is less than 60% (both pre- and post-installation) to avoid excess moisture absorption, as it can cause damage to your wooden flooring. Also, maintain the ambient temperature at 18 °C.
2. Make sure the surface is flat.
If you want the process to be seamless, inspect the surface before you start the flooring installation process. Make sure that it is flat and even, otherwise you might be forced to stop the installation midway to rectify the issue. Such disruptions do not just cause unnecessary delays, but also tend to impact the overall quality of workmanship of the project.
3. The subfloor should be ready.
Before you start the wood floor installation process, make sure the subfloor is dry, level, clean, and solid. Use a level meter to check the evenness of the floor and make sure that the subfloor doesn’t have any concrete lumps or debris. If you find any gaps, fill them using felt paper or go for sanding if the floor is too uneven. Most importantly, install a moisture barrier underlay if the wood flooring installation is on concrete, cemented, or sand base.
