Where to install?

Installing Mikasa’s chevron wooden flooring requires special considerations to minimise post-installation repairs. The floor can be installed:

  • Above or below ground level
  • Over concrete subfloors, OSB, plywood, or directly over the existing surfaces
  • Over radiant heating surfaces, provided the floor isn’t made with Maple or Jatoba hardwood

Site Preparation

Mikasa’s chevron wooden floors can be installed through nailing and glueing down. For installing Mikasa’s chevron wood floors, it is vital to ensure that:

  • All the doors and windows should be fitted well in their place
  • Construction activities (such as masonry, drywall, plastering, texturing, and painting) should be completed beforehand
  • Basements should be dry and crawl spaces must have no standing water
  • Gutters and downspouts should be in their places to guide excess water away from the building
  • HVAC systems should be operational to ensure even heat and humidity levels across the structure
  • The subfloor is properly constructed to support the wooden flooring
  • The furniture, artwork, and accessories have been removed from the installation site (if any)

Post-Installation

Post-installation practices are vital to ensure that the floor is fitted correctly and there are no gaps left between corners. This includes:

  • Removing expansion shims and using the required Mikasa solid wood mouldings and trimming pieces to cover expansion space
  • Nailing mouldings to the wall and not on the floor Immediately cleaning any adhesive spilled on the floor during the installation process
