1. Mikasa PlankLOC Technology

Mikasa wood flooring is much easier than most alternatives on the market, thanks to the revolutionary PlankLOC technology. The mechanism allows successive  planks to lock together seamlessly without using glue. It also ensures that the joints never loosen or get dislodged. Mikasa’s locking mechanism has an array of advantages. By being a glue-free technology, working with the flooring is not messy but convenient and quick to install as well as uninstall and repair.

2. Wooden Flooring Installation: The Planning

Mikasa floors can be installed on top of most existing floors. However, one has to be aware of the moisture level in the installation area, ensure balanced leveling for the sub floor, and proper alignment of the wooden flooring installation. During the planning phase, remember:

  • Mikasa wood floors can only be installed in dry indoor spaces.
  • They can’t be installed in wet rooms like bathrooms, laundry rooms, and outdoor spaces.
  • Check the moisture content of the installation site with a moisture meter.
  • The relative humidity on the meter should always be between 45 to 60 per cent.
  • The moisture content of the sub floor should not be more than 4 per cent.
  • With the help of the level meter, check the existing floor.
  • The sub floor shouldn’t have any concrete lumps or debris.
  • If the floor is 8 feet wide, the acceptable difference is not more or less than 3 millimeters.
  • In case of a floor with a width of 4 feet, the acceptable difference cannot be more or less than 2 millimeters.
  • To ensure uniformity in the installation process, start from the left end of the room and continue towards the right.
  • In case of narrow corridors, the installation process should begin lengthwise along the walls.

3. Wooden Flooring Installation: Determine the Underlay

Before installing engineered flooring on concrete, sand, or cemented flooring, it is essential to install a moisture barrier underlay. For other surfaces, it’s important to determine the underlay well in advance for smooth wooden flooring installation. For instance, if you have a mineral subfloor, it is advisable to use Mikasa VAPROTECT or PE Foil with foam. For a wooden subfloor, use felt or foam. If there is an existing stone of ceramic underfloor, Mikasa VAPROTECT or PE Foil with foam works best.
